The Stylist Who Finally Made Me Feel Seen
I’m 5 feet tall, which means shopping has always been…an adventure.
And if you are also under 5’4″, you already know the particular frustration of shopping for clothes that were clearly designed for someone four inches taller.
Pants that puddle on the floor. Sleeves that swallow my hands. Dresses that somehow hit every length except the right one.
So when I found a styling service created specifically for petite women, I didn’t just stop scrolling.
I felt seen.
And I booked immediately because the brand spoke directly to me.
She wasn’t trying to appeal to every woman. She was talking to women exactly like me.
That’s what great personal branding does. It names a specific person, a specific problem, and makes the solution obvious.
Your Audience Is Making Snap Decisions About You
Here’s what most people don’t realize about how people experience their brand:
Every time someone lands on your website, scrolls your Instagram, or hears you speak, they’re making a split-second decision:
Is this for me? Do I care enough to keep paying attention?
If the answer isn’t immediately yes, they’re gone.
Not because you aren’t talented or experienced, but because your message didn’t make it easy for them to recognize themselves in it.
The Summer Exercise That Actually Works
This isn’t a strategy session. It doesn’t require a notebook or a planning doc or blocking off a Saturday morning.
It just requires you to start paying attention differently.
As you move through your summer — whether you’re traveling, sitting at a café, walking through a new city, or just enjoying a slower pace at home — start noticing what brands and what types of marketing actually stop you.
Not what should work. What does.
- A restaurant menu that pulls you in before you’ve even decided if you’re hungry
- A boutique window that makes you slow down
- A service that describes you so precisely you feel like they wrote it just for you
Notice it. Then get curious about why.
- Did they make it obvious who they help?
- Did they describe a problem you’ve actually felt?
- Was the message simple and direct?
- Did it sound confident instead of generic?
- Did you instantly know it was for you?
You’ll start to see patterns quickly.
Some brands feel effortless to understand. Others feel like work. Some make an immediate impression. Others disappear the second you look away. Some feel specific and grounded. Others feel like they’re trying to speak to everyone — and landing with no one.
Now Turn That Lens on Your Own Brand
Once you’ve spent a few days noticing what works in the brands around you — bring that same outside perspective back to your own.
Ask yourself honestly:
If someone came across my brand for the first time today — with no context, no referral, no prior relationship — would they feel immediately seen?
Look at your website headline. Your Instagram bio. The first line of your about page.
Does it name a specific person facing a specific problem?
If the answer isn’t an immediate yes, that’s your homework.
The Shift That Changes Everything
You don’t need a full rebrand to fix this.
You need one sentence that speaks to one specific person so clearly that they have the same reaction I did when I found that styling service:
Finally. This is for me.
Your brand doesn’t become memorable because you say more. It becomes memorable because you say the right thing to the right person.
That kind of clarity does more for your personal brand than months of creating content ever could.
Want to See How Your Brand Is Landing Right Now?
If this exercise made you look at your own brand a little differently, that’s a good thing.
SNAP is a free personal brand assessment that shows you where your messaging is clear, where it’s creating connections, and where it’s still too broad to make the right people stop and pay attention.
It takes about 15 minutes and gives you honest, actionable feedback.
