In November 2024, I was staring down one of the biggest moves of my life.
Not a metaphorical move. A literal one — packing up my entire life in Maine and relocating to Texas nearly 2,000 miles away from everything that had always felt familiar.
It wasn’t just a new house. It was a new state, a new community, my son starting at a new school, and leaving behind the family we’d always had close by.
In the middle of all of it, I was white-knuckling my business. Trying to keep every launch running, every campaign active, every commitment intact.
I was already behind on what I could realistically handle.
So I made a decision that terrified me at the time:
I canceled my mastermind. I paused every launch campaign. I put down the content calendar and gave myself permission to focus on my move, my family, and my own wellbeing.
It felt risky. But looking back, it was one of the smartest business decisions I’ve ever made.
When you’re deep in execution mode — posting, launching, responding, creating, trying to stay consistent — your brain is in survival mode.
You don’t have much space to stop and ask if you’re still moving in the right direction.
The problem is that personal brand clarity doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from creating enough distance to actually see what you’re building.
That’s what the white space gave me.
With the noise turned down, I started noticing that the online space was shifting. AI wasn’t coming anymore—it was already reshaping how entrepreneurs build and grow their businesses.
Curious, I started learning everything I could. One course led to another, and before long I wasn’t just using AI—I was building custom tools around my own frameworks that I could use inside my business and eventually offer to clients.
That one decision opened an entirely new chapter for The Brand CEO. It created a new revenue stream, streamlined the way I work, and expanded how I help my clients.
The danger isn’t that your business stops growing, it’s that it keeps growing in a direction you never intentionally chose.
You keep showing up, producing, and following what looks like the right strategy.
Before you know it, you’re working harder than ever but your brand isn’t getting any clearer.
Summer gives us a natural place to pause on the business calendar.
The real question is: will you use it intentionally—or fill it with more of the same?
Building your brand this summer may have less to do with creating something new and more to do with creating enough space to see what’s no longer working.
Before you jump back into a busy season, give yourself a few minutes to look at your brand with fresh eyes.
1. What is still working for my brand right now — and what isn’t?
What feels natural and grounded versus what feels forced, confusing, or harder than it should be? Your body usually knows before your brain does.
2. Where has my brand outgrown my messaging?
Maybe your business has evolved, but your website, bio, or positioning hasn’t caught up. Or maybe you’ve slowly adapted your message to trends or what everyone else seems to be doing. Either way, summer is the perfect time to make sure your brand reflects where you’re headed—not where you’ve been.
3. Am I building intentionally or just building by momentum?
There’s a real difference between strategic personal brand positioning and accidental branding. Are you making decisions because they’re aligned with the business you want to build—or because you’ve been too busy to question what’s already in motion?
I won’t pretend stepping back is easy. When I canceled that mastermind, I felt every flavor of guilt and fear simultaneously.
But the pause gave me the AI pivot that transformed my business. It gave me the space to create AI tools and an entirely new way of serving clients that I couldn’t have designed in the middle of the chaos.
Strong brands are built by staying aligned with what matters and being willing to stop long enough to see when something needs to shift.
So wherever you are this summer, whether at the beach or the lake, block one afternoon for your brand:
Read your homepage. Your LinkedIn profile. Your Instagram bio.
Ask yourself the three questions to see if your brand still reflects the business you’re building—or the business you built a few years ago.
Sometimes the biggest breakthrough isn’t another strategy. It’s finally creating enough space to see what’s been there all along.
If your brand has started to feel a little disconnected from the business you’re building today, don’t ignore it.
My free tool SNAP is a personal brand assessment that identifies exactly where your brand is out of alignment and what to refine so it feels clear, focused, and relevant again.
