As an entrepreneur, it’s vital to know what to say when someone asks you about your business. First impressions matter, so being equipped to introduce yourself well is one of the most important things you can do for your brand.
(And let’s be honest, with a human’s short attention span, you only have a few seconds to make it or break it.)
Enter: the elevator pitch, a powerful, 30-second speech that presents yourself and your business and makes a strong first impression. The elevator pitch is a way to shape your audience’s perception of you and open the door to further conversation while staying clear, short and sweet!
In this blog post, we are going to turn those initial awkward interactions into a precise statement about your business that gets attention and shows off your expertise. Forget feeling flustered when meeting new people — developing a simple elevator pitch will help you feel confident and prepared to share with them about your brand!
What is an Elevator Pitch?
If you’ve ever attended a networking event, you’ve seen elevator pitches at work. Oftentimes, attendees to these types of meetings are given the floor for a short amount of time in order to introduce themselves. Many people stumble through this pitch, rambling about things that don’t matter because they haven’t prepared ahead of time. Others share too much, overwhelming their listeners.
Elevator pitches don’t just take place at planned events. They can happen anywhere — at the local coffee shop, at daycare pickup, or, yes, even in an elevator!
While I know packing all of your brand into a few short sentences and sharing them with others can be scary, don’t be intimidated — the elevator pitch is a powerful tool in your brand’s toolbox, and I’m here to help you craft one that will make you shine!
What Should an Elevator Pitch Include?
The objective of your elevator pitch is to provide a short overview of your business, products or services. For the most effective elevator pitch, use language that is simple and specific while also infusing it with your personality and passion.
It should answer the following questions with your audience in mind :
Who are you? What is your job title?
What do you do? What transformation do you provide?
Who do you serve? Who is your ideal client?
What is unique and different about your business?
What do you want your audience to do next (call to action)?
An elevator pitch should be professional but not boring, catchy but not gimmicky, and should leave your audience curious and wanting to learn more.
Here’s an example of an elevator pitch for a product entrepreneur:

Where to use it?
Now that you have your pitch written, it’s time to practice it often! The goal is to feel natural and unscripted. Use your elevator pitch to introduce your business whenever you have the opportunity — at an expo or other meet-and-greet networking events, when you’re giving presentations, or even at a social party!
*Here’s a tip if you’re feeling off your game : Record yourself or say it out loud in front of a mirror. Listen and see yourself — do you stutter or talk too fast? Is your facial expression too animated or too stiff? Does your passion shine through?
This exercise will make a difference in how you confidently present yourself!
The elevator pitch is a necessary brand statement that can grow brand awareness. It’s the jumping board for lead generation, customer inquiries, and relationship building. You don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to introduce yourself with impact, so practice your pitch, give it often and watch your business grow!
