A general handyman would be the perfect person to call when you need some simple repairs, but you wouldn’t hire them to build an addition to your home or design and install your dream, luxury pool!
In the same way, your clients are looking for a specialist who can meet their particular needs. The reality is, there are so many options out there for our clients, it can make their heads spin. The last thing you want is to blend in with the rest and be a clone. We all know that won’t help you grow your business and make you more money.
In order for your brand to stand out in the marketplace, you MUST position yourself as the authority and the leader of the pack in your chosen specialty.
In this post, I’m sharing 7 ways you can rise above the noise and become known as the sought-after specialist. Follow these steps to demonstrate your expertise in a way that builds the know, like and trust factor with your audience:
1) Deliver a solid pitch. Your message is clear, direct and understood. You know exactly what you do, who you serve, and how you are different, and you feel confident sharing that information with your audience. You don’t fumble your words or shy away from an opportunity to promote yourself and your expertise.
2) Create content on the regular. You write blog posts and social media consistently, and your content has value. (You listen to your audience’s pain points closely to determine what type of content to share.) You demonstrate your knowledge and generously offer tips and tutorials as a trusted resource.
3) Develop a freebie. Create a resource that gives your audience a free “win” — a lead magnet that helps your audience in a valuable way and allows you to stay connected to them and nurture that relationship. In my business, I share a free PDF, then I follow up with a few emails that continue to support my audience with more beneficial content as well as an introduction to other services I offer.
4) Get visible. Don’t be shy! Look for avenues to put yourself out there and take every opportunity to earn press, publicity, and podcasts. This will showcase your talent and help differentiate you from the competition.
5) Start speaking. Successful brands have signature talks. Come up with key topics that address what your audience is interested in and start sharing that with your network. Pitch other communities to share your expertise. For example, I have 4 key topics I speak about : brand visibility, brand attraction, niche strategy and personal branding. I rotate these topics on all my platforms, so my audience knows exactly what I am an expert in.
6) Share testimonials and case studies. Your past client work is the greatest evidence to prove your method and approach. Share these on your website, social media, in your newsletter…everywhere!
7) Design a framework. Take your process and intellectual property and develop a branded methodology. Demonstrate your success path by showing the steps that you bring your clients through. For example, my signature framework is The Brand CEO Method — my proven process that takes clients from brand bland to brand breakthrough.
