My job is to help ambitious women entrepreneurs gain clarity in their brands, so they can step into the spotlight and command the attention they deserve.
Over the past several years, I’ve watched these women make incredible strides in their businesses. Many have gone from invisible to impact in their industry. As we’ve worked together, I’ve noticed three consistent traits that have helped them rise above the noise in their crowded spaces.
This post will share the three secrets to standing head and shoulders above the rest and offer you actionable ways to implement these ideas into your own business.
PLUS, I’m giving you a peek into three real-life businesses. The women who run these businesses are great examples of what TO do in business!
1) Be Innovative. Want to be known for something great? Then you can’t keep doing the same old, same old. To make your mark, you must identify a place in the market where you can stand out and shine. Search for a gap — a place where needs aren’t being met — and use your expertise to solve that problem! Find your own innovative, brilliant solution for that need.
Example:
In the jewelry industry, there are plenty of designers that can make you something from scratch.
However, there aren’t many jewelry designers who take hand-me-down earrings from your grandmother’s collection or the forgotten necklace at the back of your drawer and breathe new life into them.
Jalpa Pandit is a passionate jewelry designer and gemologist who specializes in revivals. By creating something new that you’ll want to wear every day, she breathes new life into these neglected pieces. When her customers wear a piece of repurposed jewelry, they are able to carry their loved ones with them wherever they go. Cheers to remembering the past and to celebrating new beginnings!
2) Create an Experience. People flock to brands that create an amazing client experience — the kind that is international, mindful and joyful at every touchpoint and interaction. The secret is to over deliver, communicate openly, become an invested partner, and to surprise and delight.
From navigating your website to their first discovery call to the physical delivery of your goods, if your clients keep talking about you even after they finish working with you, word gets around! A special experience builds customer loyalty, better customer satisfaction and viral word of mouth.
How does your business create a buzz-worthy experience?
Example:
Vanessa Flores of The Strong and Fit Life not only offers killer virtual workouts, but she also layers her client experience with high touch 1 : 1 check-in calls, audio text messages for encouragement, online workshops to perfect form, monthly challenges to encourage healthy eating habits, meal planning ideas, and even surprise gifts in the mail with motivating quotes. All of these special touches work together to create a brand that people want in their life and also love to talk about and refer to their friends.
3) Get Specific. You knew I was going to talk about niching, didn’t you? If you really want to get ahead of the competition, you’ve got to drop the “jack-of-all-trades” bit. This only makes you blend in with the rest of your market.
Instead, hone in on that ONE problem you can solve really well. What special knowledge or skills do you hold that sets you apart? How can you use that knowledge to target a specific group of clients? This is how you create a space for yourself in a smaller viable market. Once you’ve done that, commit to speaking directly to that audience and serving them specifically.
Example:
Take a look at Nicole Kepic of Nicole Kepic Copywriting. Instead of trying to be a copywriter to the masses and offering every service under the sun, Nicole is specifically a sales page copywriter for coaches and creatives. She helps this sub niche of clients stand out from the crowd, attract their ideal clients, and sell out their signature offers.
Her approach is to infuse personality, speak to the readers’ big dreams, and never push people to buy. She writes feel-good, sounds-like-you sales page copy that gets readers to say, “I want that!”
Many of us work in a saturated, competitive industry.
The reality — it’s difficult to stand out. We must be strategic in our positioning and clear in our competitive advantage if we’re going to experience the success we long for.
Spending time figuring out how your brand can be innovative, how you can design a wow-worthy client experience, and how you can narrow in your expertise to become more memorable are three keys that WILL give your brand the competitive edge it needs. I hope these real-life examples inspire you to put these three secrets to getting ahead of the competition in action!
