What makes your brand something your customers can truly trust are the underlying promises you deliver consistently — your BRAND PROMISE.
More than just a tagline or mission statement, a brand promise is the unwavering value you offer your audience. It’s what your customers can count on every time they connect with you. Your brand promise goes beyond words to capture the experience and results your business guarantees, creating reliability in your customer interactions.
A well-defined brand promise is essential for building trust and clarity. Without it, your branding and marketing efforts can become chaotic and confusing, leaving potential customers uncertain about what you offer.
A clear brand promise will help you…
— articulate your value with confidence
— attract the right buyers
— create a consistent experience that builds a strong reputation.
For example, take a look at the brand promises the following leading companies have made through their brands:
Apple: Think Different.
Geico: 15 Minutes or Less Can Save You 15% Or More On Car Insurance.
Planet Fitness: The Judgment-Free Zone.
Their promises are clear, direct, and they consistently deliver on them. These recognizable promises have helped these particular brands stand out in crowded markets.
Consider Your Customers. Your brand promise is your commitment to your audience. It must be credible and believable to them, so your first step is to dig into WHO the brand promise is for. Ask yourself:
— Who are you serving?
— What does your audience want from you?
— Why would they choose your business over the rest?
Think About the Transformation. Your brand promise guarantees results, so it MUST offer a compelling benefit. In this step, reflect on the changes you bring to your clients, what impact you have, and what type of transition they experience when working with you.
— What results can your clients expect?
— How do they feel when they work with you?
— How does their life change after working with you?
Remember Your Expertise. You bring a special set of skills, talents, and personality to the table, and your brand promise should offer something unique to your audience. It must clearly explain what you do and why you do it better.
— What do you do differently than others?
— What qualities do they count on you to only deliver?
— What is your unique distinction?
Keep It Short and Sweet. Your brand promise should be clear and direct while also inspiring trust and confidence.
— What am I known for?
— What do I stand for?
— Why do I do this work?
— What change am I hoping to bring to the world?
To get started, try filling in these statements:
We promise [desired benefit] for [targeted audience] so that they [end result/transformation].
At [brand name], we take you from [pain point/problem] to [benefit], empowering you to [desired outcome].
Once you have a clear brand promise, it becomes the cornerstone of your brand strategy, guiding every decision and action your brand takes.
Here’s are some ideas to implement and share your brand promise effectively:
1. Spread the Word: Infuse your brand promise into every corner of your business—whether it’s your website, social media, or marketing materials.
2. Keep It Consistent: Let your brand promise be your compass. Make sure your brand voice echoes that promise and your team embodies it in every client interaction.
3. Deliver on Your Promise: The key to establishing and building trust and loyalty with your audience is to deliver what you’ve promised.
