Sure, being versatile has its merits, but today’s customers really want to hire someone who can address their specific pain points with expertise and precision. To become a magnetic and memorable brand that attracts those dreamy clients, you must learn how to highlight your unique superpower. When you identify your competitive edge, you can build value, credibility and trust with your audience
In this blog post, I’m sharing my proven formula for ditching the generalist persona and creating a niche that will get you recognized as a specialist in your market.
Let’s jump into the four-step process I use to help my clients define their niche and position themselves as the go-to expert in their industry.
Step #1 — Specialize. Pinpoint the specific problem you solve for your clients and be willing to let go of the rest. It’s time to narrow in on the ONE THING you want to be known for and build your brand around that thing. Adopt the attitude that you are not a service provider but an expert in that niche.
Step #2 — Specify. Identify the specific audience you serve and leave the masses behind! Instead of trying to serve everyone, narrow in on your target market. You cannot develop a specialist, elite brand if you are serving everyone. Get really specific to increase your impact.
Step #3 — Stand out. Differentiate yourself from the competition. What can you bring to the table that no one else is doing? Clearly identify what makes your business different or better from the others in your market.
Step #4 — Solve. Provide a unique solution to your clients’ problems. Become known for offering a specific method to solve a specific problem. Is there a certain platform, format, or tech that you are using that helps differentiate your brand? Develop a system around that thing that produces consistent results.
To get a jumpstart on defining what can set your own business apart from the crowd, ask yourself the following questions:
What are my unique skills, talents, and experiences that make me stand out?
What makes me different from other businesses in my industry?
What vibe do I have that is unique?
What intellectual property do I offer that others do not?
