“It doesn’t matter how fast you can go, it doesn’t matter how much passion you have, and it doesn’t matter how much energy you put into something. If you don’t have a vision and clarity on the destination you want to reach, you’ll simply never get there.” – Dean Graziosi
A new year is always the perfect opportunity to kickstart a new and improved brand. It’s time to dream big and define the future direction of your business. I realize it can sometimes feel overwhelming to think ahead, but if we don’t know where we’re going, how can we create a plan of action for today?
In this blog post, I’m going to show you how to create a brand vision that will work for YOU, helping you fulfill your ambitious desires.
When planning out your brand vision, be bold! Push past fear, remember your dreams, and design the business you really want. Allow yourself the space to dream and to give yourself permission to create big goals for your business.
This exercise is so important for your brand — when you have a clear vision of where your brand is headed, you can make meaningful decisions along the way.
Here’s an example of me casting brand vision in my own business that was sparked by a dream several years ago:
As you can see, eight years ago I was envisioning a creative space of my own, a photography studio where I could invite clients, colleagues, and students to create, collaborate and connect.
After years of dreaming and planning, that dream became a reality when I moved to Maine in 2020. We converted a free standing barn into my workspace where I not only photograph my clients, but I host workshops and small events.
I seriously pinch myself everyday when I go to work! If I didn’t dare to dream about this space years ago and have the courage to put it out there, I may not ever have built this studio space. (Photo Credit : Courtney Elizabeth)
What is a brand vision statement?
Your brand vision statement is a simple but powerful description of the future of your brand. It is a statement that shares where you want to take your business and the process involved in setting the stage for your future direction. It explains the kind of impact you hope to achieve in the long term and will provide purpose for your goals and actions moving forward.
Why do I need a brand vision statement?
Are you guilty of chasing shiny objects?
Your vision statement will help you stay on brand and on track and avoid feeling lost and scattered. It acts as a “north star” or road map for you and your business, but its impact doesn’t end there. It can also be shared with your audience to help build a stronger connection to them and differentiate you from the competition.
If you don’t have a vision statement, your brand is at risk of drifting aimlessly. You may appear inconsistent in your marketing and your offers may be ineffective because they are not anchored in your overall future forecast for the business.
How do you create a vision statement?
Start with focusing on these strategic areas and think about what practical steps you can take to get there.
Revisit your “why” to help you see the direction you should pursue in the future. Remember the reason you started your business in the first place. What type of life did you want to lead? What impact did you want to make?
Define your special sauce and what makes your business special. What makes you unique and one of a kind?
Outline your values. What things are most important to you as you build your business empire? What values do you want to uphold?
Think about the future of your business and what you want to accomplish. What could your business look like in the future?
Let yourself dream big, push fear aside and reach for the stars!
More Questions to Consider
If you were successful in your business, how could your brand change the world?
If money were not an issue, what would you be doing and selling?
If fear was not an obstacle, what could you be the “world’s best” in?
If you could create your perfect day, what would you be doing and not doing?
If you could be known for anything, what would you want your reputation to be?
When business gets foggy or you feel lost, your brand vision statement will be your lighthouse. I urge you to take the time to really define this vision before you plunge head over heels into the busyness of the new year.
Often I see entrepreneurs bogged down in the day-to-day work, and they never take the time to check themselves and make sure they are actually working to build the future they want.
A brand vision will give your business a sense of direction and purpose.
